I’ve updated the Projects section to include some new Circuit Bending material. In addition to my own tutorials, I’ve uploaded the Tablebeast SK-1 bending guide from the defunct sk-1.org website. Before the night is through, I hope to have up all my old bentpedals.com schematics, as well.

Use and abuse, noise-makers.

Project in Progress: Of Places and Moments

Of Places and Moments is a celebration of the art of field recordings. Tracks to be included will utilize recordings from the Sounds Found Project. The recordings can be mangled, manipulated, abused or violated beyond recognition, so long as some audio source in the track is taken from one of the available recordings.

Submissions will be accepted until the deadline of July 31st August 14th. Click the Contact link on the right for more information.

Upcoming.

Pursuant to the post about getting the old compilation pages up, I’ve been exploring the idea of new compilation projects. I sent out some emails today to see if I can find a netlabel interested in handling the release/hosting duties for the finished product, and contacted the purveyor of the archive of sound files that I want to be the basis of the first project.

We have a go for the latter, but nothing solid on the former. As soon as I get that detail worked out, I’ll be posting an official project thread.

Songs : Ohia – Magnolia Electric Co

When listening to this album I can’t help but think that this is what it would sound like if Neil Young wrote songs that I like: stylistically, this is not the type of album I would typically find myself spinning on a regular basis. Jason Molina’s vocals, while nasally and occasionally questionably in key, are genuine and lend heart to an album rife with overt homage to folk and country. The genius of this album is apparent in the choice of traditional instrumentation that transcends the typical indie rock foundation of the songs it contains, and yet fails to fall into the soporific trappings of the neo-folk movement. It would have been a solid five star album, but for the jarringly incongruous inclusion of guest vocalists on a few of the tracks.
