Weekend

Tomorrow is Friday, which means that another weekend is fast approaching. I think I'm going to start setting goals for my weekends, because they seem to be wasted on me. My weekends typically involve me sitting around my apartment staring at the wall thinking "Fuck, this is even more boring than work." I'm trying to resist the urge to write more noise, because I feel like I put out a ton of stuff last year and I should probably slow down a little and let something build that's worth creating, rather than creating merely to pass the time. This means that my goals will need to lie outside of that realm, or at least just enough outside of that realm that it doesn't culminate in any new Controlled Dissonance releases.

Some ideas I've been tossing around:

• Learn how to paint - I spent many a Saturday morning as a child watching Bob Ross, and I've always wanted to see if I could parlay that into an actual talent for painting. Up to this point I've been dissuaded by the mess it causes and the initial investment to get the proper tools and materials. One of these days, though.

• Repurpose thrift store items - Head over to the Goodwill and pick up some random things that can be repurposed into some manner of sculpture or visual art. I have some ideas of things that I would like to create (artifacts of fictitious historical eras), but haven't found the motivation necessary to overcome my laziness and start working. I have most of the tools I would need for a project like this, but I hesitate at drilling and sawing wood in my bedroom. It's times like these that I miss the work rooms that I've had over the years.

• Learn to play this stupid guitar - I've owned one guitar or another for the last 17 years and I still can't play any songs that the average person might recognize. I know a handful of chords, but don't really play them that well. It's odd that most of the people you meet who play guitar do so to form bands or pick up women. You don't often meet people who just learn to play because they want to sit down after a long day at work and strum for a little while to relax. I wouldn't mind having that ability.

• Remix - When in doubt, use your creativity sparingly in the pursuit of ruining the music of others. I am a sucker for a remix project, so if you have something you want remixed, send it my way. I would recommend leaving your expectations at the door, though.

• Finish this intonarumori - I started working on my own intonarumori design last spring and hit a snag when I needed some materials I couldn't afford. I ended up moving into this little apartment shortly thereafter and haven't had a proper space to work in (see above). I still have the plans and most of the critical components, I'm just lacking a proper housing and some of the less planned-out functional elements.

• Write - I have a few legitimate ideas that I should be working on, but haven't really put in the effort. I think the one that is going to give me the most bang for my proverbial buck (read: will require the least amount of effort to see to fruition) could even be serialized to further ease the burden of motivation. This may become reality before any of the others things on this list.

Now all I need is the motivation to see any of these things through and I'll be set. Hooray!
